Figga Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 hey guys im new to this form and im jus about to turn 16 and ive been readin most of the forums here and ive been gettin a pretty good idea about what kinda car i want but hey i was wondering..whats the difference between a short ram and a cold air intake..and what is tha difference between hp gained.. if u reply to this thanks fo tha help
civicminded10 Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 A Cold air intake goes down all the way by the ground, and the tubes longer so it can get "colder air" A short ram is just a mini intake that a tube just come out of the intake manifold. A short ram is louder for vtec but more hp with a cold air.
cranny Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 the difference between CAI and SRI eh , the biggest diff is CAI suck up dirt and grime and everythin else on the road dirt , basically turnin your engine into a very exspensive vacuum cleaner. short ram breaths a little hotter air but healthier for engine.

CleanGSR Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 I agree. The cold air intake will be protected by the wheel well and if you have a filter you won't be sucking in any dirt and grime. Just remove the filter once a year to clean it and re-oil it and it will be fine. My dad's GSR has had an AEM CAI for about 5 years now and never had a problem
Humphries Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 SRI is better for midrange and CAI is better for top end.. both dont do much but make it louder.
cranny Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 nasty winters up here though salt and so on . CMON SUMMER!!!. depends on climate i guess. have seen many prolems up here from CIA.
DJB98LX Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 SRI is better for midrange and CAI is better for top end.. both dont do much but make it louder. ?????? I thought it was the other way around. I'm not a pro., but when changing from my short ram to a cold air, I got back my low end TQ that was lost. The short ram only did good above 4500 rpms, and my computer software showed this.
xalexjx@yahoo.com Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 lots of opinions and depends on the intake,,,,make sure you buy a bypass valve...its way cheaper then a new engine
Humphries Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 i think i did get those backwards. good call!
90IntegraC1 Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 no don't get a bypass valve, K&N makes a water-proof, almost like a sack that you put over the air filter that makes any water bead when it touches it. it's sweet. from what i've read, bypass valves make you lose the HP you gain by putting the intake on in the first place. IDK.

IDK. agreed. dont get a bypass valve. the only way you will hyrdolock is if you SUBMERGE the front end of your car into a damn pond or something. you dont even need that K&N thing.
CleanGSR Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 You didn't get it wrong a longer intake tube will help in the higher revs and a shorter one will help in the midrange. Think about the ITB setups. They run long runners for really high reving power and shorter runners for midrange power. Or think of the GSR intake mani. Shorter runners down low and opens up at 6k into the longer runners. Longer pipe helps higher revs more.
CleanGSR Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I won't argue with that. passwordjdm has a carbon fiber j's style intake for around $160.00. Definatley would by my 1st choice.

SolLesHonda Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I have one sitting in my garage, I'll sell it to you 100 shipped.
Humphries Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 you have a jays? i want it! i dont care what engine its for i can make it work.
SolLesHonda Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 No, I have the AEM V2 for a 92-95 civic.

CleanGSR Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 I would take the J's style over AEM, but for $100 buy the AEM from SolLesHonda. It's also a really good intake.
SexyH22 Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 i made my own cai for my delsol. theres a howto i think on teamdelsol.com
CleanGSR Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Yeah, I made my own intake also. I figured that none of them make enough power to notice and a short ram intake is taking in hot air no matter how you look at it, so I wasn't going to spend $90 for an AEM SRI.
90IntegraC1 Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 yo solLess, i bought a V2 CAI last summer from a guy for $50, and it looked all crappy so I put it on e-bay and it sold for $150. you should do that to make some extra cash, it's worth it.
