So lately my grandma has been staying with me for the past week. Shes staying with me b/c I have to give her medicine at the right times before I take her back to the dr later this week. Her problem is she forgets every darn thing!! No she doesn't have Alzheimers, I hope it doesn't lead to that, but I think she has dimentia. She keeps asking what todays date is. I'll tell her and 5 min later she'll ask me again. 1-2 min later I'll ask her todays date and she'll tell me she doesn't know. She is crazy about her social security money! I took her to the store to cash her gov't check and she'll have a wad of cash in her purse, everyday she takes it out and counts it. She hides it, fearing i'd steal her sh*t or something.

Last night she was crying at 3 in the damn morning. I wake my ass up to see whats going on. She said someone stole her money. I dumped out her purse and looked around the couch (where she sleeps) and it was nowhere to be found. I ask her to look in her pockets and bra and what do you know...all 700 bucks was stuffed in her bra. One time she hid her money somewhere in her house and forgot where hid it. She then calls me saying she was robbed. The lady drives me crazy.. Anybody have grandparents like this????

Cliff Notes: grandma forgets things like dates and money. she drives me insane.

your mom opens her purse to look for money..i think? Thats what my grandma does. she even takes her cash with her when she gets up to use the restroom, scared if she leaves it while she goes to the restroom that i'll steal it. and yeah, my grandma will open her purse every few min just to check on her money.

I think she gets this way b/c her brain isn't active. Her husband died years ago and she has been living by herself for several years. I'm afraid to leave medicine for her to take by herself b/c she'll take her medicine...and a few min/hrs later she'll take it again thinking that she hasn't taken it that day, which isnt healthy for her. When I get old, im joining some organization to make myself active or do crossword puzzles. Or i'll do what most old asian men do - play chinese chess!

I'm pretty lucky I guess. My set of grandparents from Colorado are pretty wealthy and in pretty good health. They are reitred from farming and still own 7000 acres of land in Colorado that they rent to my uncle for 100,000/year for him to use for farming. My grandpa had a harley until he was 78, a 76 vette until he was about 80, and now trades in for a new caddy every year. Used to own 2 planes and a moped (for us kids). My grandparents are a blast and always have been. My grandpa has been having health problems lately with his heart, so kind of sad to see him slow down and not do all the "fun" stuff he has always done.

My other grandparents are pretty selfish. They don't even fork out $2.00 for a Christmas card.

yes I agree.......when we grow old our body will/must slow down i.e. physically we will slow down but the important thing is not to allow our mind to slow down.Mentally we must be alert. Thus when we say 'oh I forgot" we must not let it happen again...one must try to remember. I also agree that to actively play mental games(like cross word puzzles and Chinese chess)is a very good way to keep the mind alert and active. For me I play mahjong and "choa tai tee" very often. It really keeps the mind active.
