VTEC Sounds like a Diesel - any suggestions ?

I have a 1994 Accord EX with a VTEC engine and it Sounds like a Diesel.

 

I've checked the valve clearance and they are all on the tight side of the specs, so one would think it shouldn't make "ANY" noise.

 

The sound it's making is just like the Valve Lash is gapped too wide.

 

I'm just not sure how much influence the Variable Valve Timing has to do with that adjustment.

 

Any suggestions ?
