Transmission fluid for CR-V that sat

Hi guys just wondering if i should change the transmission fluid on my 03 crv thats been sitting since 2017(hasnt been started since). I know the fluid is probably old n broken down from sitting in humid louisiana weather, but im getting alot of conflicting points from family and the internet that says changing this fluid can damage the tranny and cause slipping. What should I do?
