Troubled Seatbelt
Are passenger seatbelt retractors supposed to lock in the restraining position? My wife has a 2007 Honda Pilot that seems to have a problem with the front passenger side seatbelt locking and not allowing any movement at all. The driver side seatbelt allows the driver to move about freely but the passenger side retractor locks and will not release. The passenger has to unlock the belt, return the belt to the starting position and then refasten the safety belt. This can become a burden and sometimes has to be repeated multiple times. I fear this is a safety issue because the passenger is constantly having to unlock the seatbelt while the vehicle is moving. The local dealer states that this is normal for restraining children but it sounds more like and excuse not to fix the problem. Oddly, they ordered a driver's side belt and insisted that there is a problem although no problem has ever been experienced. Does anyone know if the passenger seatbelt retractor is supposed to stay locked?
airjordan223
No it should not do that. Dealer should replace it for free.
