AC is always difficult to service at home do to needing special gauges and not exactly safe to handle chemicals. No need to visit the dealer either. AC systems are relatively simple and easy to service and any shop can do the service.

It sounds as though the system just needs a recharge. Most auto parts places sell simple recharge kits this time of year. Depending on your comfort level under the hood you can try a recharge kit, or visit your local Harbor Freight and purchase the gauge kit or stop by at your neighborhood service garage and have an AC service done there. Typically $100-$150 seems to be the going rate from the corner garage (Firestone, Tuffy, Midas, Pep Boys, and the like).
