I've herd that you can use a stock single cam engine and put a turbo kit on it and run about 7 to 8 pounds of boost daily? Now is that realisticly or would i actually have to bulid it?

I have a d16y5 single cam engine im gonna buy a turbo kit for it probaley a t3 or t4? suggestions? And buy some injectors and a fuel pump of course. All i wanna know would it even take it or would it just blow? Please Answer

Almost no power, bad motor, a waste of money.

if you want to stay d series and boost look into building a mini me swap then boosting that. if not you dont have much chance making a lot a power with a stock d. look out there tho when they are properly built a d can actually be pretty impressive for what it is. if your not set on just building a d just to say you did then id go b swap for around the same cash itd take you to properly boost that d.

to answer your question better you could probably push 8pds for a lil while. to be practical id say that engine might hold 5 daily. really not worth it to boost that particular engine tho. build a mini me and boost it or go b series.

hey guys im new to this forum. but i think i can help you sir. a mini me swap as far as i know, is when some one has a d16 y7 and they pretty much take everything from the heads up from the d16 y8 motor. the heads the intake cam, and they wire in v tec and i think they do something elts with an IACV sensor.?? correct me if im wrong guys. they do this to beef up their compression ratio. and get more power and tq. from the y7 engine. I have a similar situation but i have a d16 y8 but i spun main journal number 3 dug it straight into the block beyond repair. so i went looking for a block only to find that the y7 blocks are wayyy cheeper than a y8 but almost exactly identical. i actually picked up a used y7 bare block yesterday that is in good shape for 50 bucks so i cant complain, and im trying to figure out what this mini me swap really is. because i have the d16 y8 engine. i need a crank kit and i need to know if i should buy a crank for a y7 or y8 and can i use my y8 pistons and rods?? as far as I have read you can. but im not 100% on that. because everyone usually goes from the y7 to the mini me. not y8 to mini me so im confused on what to do. maby we can help each other.

Nearly all vehicles can add 8 pounds of boost. What your worried about is the cast pistons. You might see small melted particles specs on your plugs due to the porosity (small air pockets in the metal) of the cast pistons but they will hold easily. You also need to be aware of detonation if you have high compression as it will destroy your cast pistons in a heartbeat. If flashing your ECU make sure you have correct inputs for your configuration. If you've got too much compression and boost it is 3x better to lower compression than to reduce spark to prevent detonation as far as power output is concerned. Do not reduce timing to an extent where you burn your exhaust valves either. Also do to more pressure from the boost you need less timing and cylinder pressures rise quicker, do not take your pistons past 10 psi and make sure to use an after cooler.
