Upgrade Ideas?

So, I'm wanting to know what would be some good aftermarket parts for my car. I have 93 Del Sol S. Since I'm kinda new with cars and want to really understand some stuff on them, I'm asking you guys about what would be best to put on it. I know it already has a air intake and chrome headers. A couple other add ons like Racing Seats, strobe lights, neon in the trunk, aftermarket wheels(though I plan to buy ones that I can paint blue to match the second color, It's white and has blue in it but there is two different tones of white on it so I am gonna get it repainted Pearl White)... Most of it was already on the car when I bought it. I plan on getting a turbo on my car so I don't plan on buying any exhaust system or new headers. Any suggestions would be helpful. If you just say keep it stock, don't bother here because I want to make mine a good race car(I don't plan racing illegally, I'll take it to the track)... I already have body kit, hood, and fenders picked out and I already have the lambo door hinges(I know a bunch of you guys don't like them but I'm putting them on anyways, the stuff I already have picked out isn't changing) Whether it's upgrades or cosmetic stuff or ideas for a system cause I need a new one, I don't care. I'll take in account every thing you guys say. Money isn't a problem since this is going to be a project ranging for a couple years on. Please no bad comments or anything. Don't critisize me by saying, "keep it stock", I like it stock but I want to add more to it. Just give me ideas for engine upgrades, I probably won't swap my engine, as bad as I want to but I have to make some sacrifices. It's a D15B7, I'm almost positive but I might be wrong... Let the ideas flow away!

Do you have any pics of said Sol?? There is a difference between tastefully modding a Sol and ricing one out, and browsing over the list I can see Uncle Ben;'s might be sponsoring you at the track on race day! Sorry not trying to be a asss but no one here will voluntarily help you rice it out. How ever if you take a different approach and are open to a more subtle modding help and parts suggestions will flow!8)

okay if you want a race car heres what you need to do

Scrap EVERYTHING you have just said, as you are adding nothing but weight to the car which slows it down, and makes stopping it harder. Fiberglass body kits SUCK, why? because they break... constantly, and are a PITA to install right (and I know you have never worked with fiber glass)

No track will let your car onto it with lambo hinges, it is a safety concern and an insurance liabilty for the track.

More than likely your "racing seats" will not make it onto the track as well because they are probably egay specials, and are not certified to be used in an on road vehicle.

Strobes... have fun getting pulled over for impersonating a police officer

Neons... again have fun getting pulled over for impersonating a police officer and or improper equipment violations

So here is my suggestion, put the wrench away, and think VERY HARD about what you ultimately want the car to be.

Then tell us that exact goal, and we will be happy to get you there.

Considering you'll attack if I say racecar or showcar... Originally I wanted a show car but with racing upgrades but I figured you'd critisize if I said showcar but that's what I want... Despite the critisizm, I'm still gonna go on with this post.... Here are some pictures of my car....

The Engine.

Another Angle... Yes, there are flames on it... I didn't paint them on there, this was from the previous owner.

TV Screen, I intend to take it out but it was from the previous owner... I plan on putting gauges there.

Door Panel with the common del sol issue.

The Racing Seats.

Well, go ahead... Start critisizing me but if you'd be nice... I'd like some advice on what to put into it.

Plus, I can't really explain how I want my car to look but if you ask something, I can try to explain exactly what I had in mind.

do you want function or do you want form?

do you want "bling" or do you want "wow"

do you want to spend $ or do you want to spend $$

do you want to spend an hour a week working on your car, or 40 hours a week working on your car

are you a beginer who knows how to change his oil and thats about it, or are you an ASE master tech

awnser those questions and I can help.

also realize im not attacking you, im trying to help lead you in the right direction. we all went through a ricer stage early in the game, but eventually you realize that less is more, and to make a car truly stand out, its the little details that matter.

after all a h22 in a sol is cool, but a tucked, boosted and machine screwed bay d16 is just plain sexy.

Get my point?

i would start by removing those pedal covers for some actual pedals. get rid of the auto tragic tranny, ditch the flames, get it all one uniform color then find a paint scheme...

My momma taught me if I can't say something nice, to keep my mouth shut... Soooooo...

I will only say that it looks like you have a basically nice, straight car to begin with. At least you won't have to spend time & money on body work and paint.

Lose the wing -- possibly dump the car..rims look like 17"s with are hard to pull off on a Sol without a kit, not to mention will weigh and slow it down.

Get your interior straightened out. Don't mind the Corbeau's really, but all the other blue/white hurts my heart. And for God's sakes man, PAINT THE VC!

-do you want function or do you want form?... I kinda want a little of both but If I had to choose, probably function.

-do you want "bling" or do you want "wow".... I want my car to "wow" people.

-do you want to spend $ or do you want to spend $$.... I probably don't have $$ but I can work with $.

-do you want to spend an hour a week working on your car, or 40 hours a week working on your car.... If I could spare 40 hours I would but I'm young and have school but maybe a couple hours a week.

-are you a beginer who knows how to change his oil and thats about it, or are you an ASE master tech.... I'm straight out begginer mainly because I'm young but my father is helping me out with majority of the stuff I don't know and he knows the whole deal about cars. I'm hoping to learn on the way though, I don't plain on putting in anything without someone who knows what their doing though.

I understand that I'm starting out in this whole game and I understand you guys aren't attacking me but the way I want my car might not be the way you guys like your del sols. I want to completely clean it out but I can't because it would be to much trouble to get all the dirt and stains out, overall it would be worth is but my mom won't let me.

Note: I am 16 and I still live with my mom. I would try and get a new engine but we don't have that kind of money. I would do a bunch more to my car but she won't allow me. Also, everything that is in del sol came from the previous owner, the pedals were the only thing I put in it because I wanted them to look clean for now, I plan on putting different ones in the future.

My neighbor was alot like you when i started teaching him how to work on cars, he had a primer POS 95 coupe. He now owns a POS 98ex coupe, however with this one he has stripped the interior and is re wrapping it (to get rid of the p/o's rice), he re dyed the carpet, we sound deadened the whole car, and are building a y8 out of the car.

mind you a year ago this kid didnt know how to change his own oil, he is know doing complete rebuilds.

Cars are not cheap, luckily yours is 1/2 way cheap to work as, as long as your willing to put in the sweat equity.

Im going to tell you flat out tho that you do not want to put fiberglass anything on your car, it will break, and it will break ALOT quicker than you think it will.

I also understand your mom not letting you (my neighbor is 18, lives at home) so we go though the same issues, just rember to tell her that 1.) you are fixing it to make it more reliable and 2.) you are cleaning it up to make it less of a thief magnet.

What you really need to look for is OEM parts to replace all of the crap in your interior (the seats can stay, not a fan, but they can stay) but the door panels, trim, etc get them replaced.

Get rid of the stickers on the side, all they do is to advertise to a thief that "hey you can scrap these parts off of me!", not exactly a great idea.

Get rid of the 17" rims, get something 14-16, you car will handle better, accelerate faster, and stop shorter, also you will get better fuel economy.

basicly my best suggestion to you is to make the car as stock as possible, THEN decide how you want to change it.
