94 Accord Won't Fire

Hey guys, long time reader, first time poster. I have a 96 Accord in my garage, and I'm going to pick up a 94 Accord EX that doesn't fire for a really good price this week. Guy that is selling it said the fuel filter was clogged, but can't really trust that. My list of things to check: Fuel filter, Main relay, Ignition, and Distributor. Not sure if there is a CEL but I will pull it if there is and report back. Looking for any input on which to check first, what to add to my list, etc. Thanks for all the help.

EDIT: My 96 Accord has a pretty rough body and the trans is starting to slip. Figured it would be better to just use that as a backup and not dump anymore money into it.

96 accord. aweful crunching sound from rear wheels

I probably should have taken care of this awhile ago, but it started out as a light sort of crunching sound from the rear wheels going over bumps or dips, but only really sounded when it was cold out. well, it certainly hasn't fixed itself (not that I expected it to...) and now it is worse, and the winter season doesn't help anything.

when going through a parking garage, all the front of the car has to do is tilt when the ramp levels out and I get a crunch-like sound from the rear wheels since the whole angle of the car changes and the rear wheels become the fulcrum of the angle change. as mentioned, the same sound happens over bumps and dips. on really good days, I don't hear it, but those are few and far between now.

I suspect rear ball joints. I changed the rear struts over the summer, so I doubt those are any problem. I had to replace the front ball joints a few years ago, and since I haven't had the car more than three years, I figure the rear ball joints may have worn out at about the same rate and need replacement. the only other culprit I can think of are some aweful lower control arm bushings, but I need to get off my butt and check it out more thoroghly. If what I have noticed in the past is any indication, I don't believe those are in bad shape.

additional info: I do get a bit of a shimmy when braking, but I figured that might be from warped rotors although I replaced those about three years ago. I'm not a tough braker and I don't drive very fast. plenty of brake pad left there. nothing special happens on turns, although it's not like I go over speed bumps diagonally

changing the ball joints certainly wouldn't hurt. bad lower control arm bushings I can live with, but the fear of having a rear suspension collapse is what unnerves me right now.

as always, suggestions and info are greatly appreciated

edit:
sorry, I thought my car info used to post under my profile (non) image. I have a 96 accord, 4 door, non-vtec 4 cyl engine. if that helps. my chilton's manual shows that the suspension changes big time on the slightly later year accords

Cold Idle Issues

I have a 2001 Honda Accord EX V6 Coupe. The issues below started after I got my timming belt replaced from a local shop. The car has some idle issues when it is cold and here are the details.

When I start the car in the morning it starts without issues at a cold idle of about 1200 RPM. I then drive about 3 blocks and turn off the car before it has had a chance to fully warm up. About 5 minutes later, I get back into the car and start it up. Upon start up the car idles at about 200 RPM and when I put it in gear and the car just dies. If I sit and wait with the car at 2000 RPM for about 2 minutes the idle is great and has no issues. I have also tried another method. I work the brake and the gas until I get onto a straight away and then I hit the gas. After I am on the gas for a few minutes the idle issue goes away. I have also checked all vacuum lines and I can't find a leak.

What could be causeing the car to idle at 200 RPM after I have started the car and drove it for 3 blocks turned it off and then restarted the car?

The car also hesitates from full stop idle to full throttle and at about 3000 RPM the car finally comes alive. If I hit the gas on the freeway there is no hesitation just a hesitation from full stop idle to about 3000 RPM. During the hesitation there is a very low deep sound coming from the engine and when it reaches about 3000 RPM the deep sound goes away along with the hesitation.

I looked at the Idle Air Control (IAC) and experimented a little with it. As I started the car up it idled fine and then I drove around the block and shut off the car. I then started the car back up and the car would idle at about 200 RPM. I disconnected the IAC and the RPMs shot up to 1500RPM. I plugged the IAC back in and the idle went back down to 200 RPM. I then put the RPMs at 2000 and let the car warm up to operating temp. I put my fingers over the port for the IAC in the throttle body and the car died.

Could my issue be the IAC is bad?

Also, a few months ago I checked the codes in the computer and I had a code for an O2 sensor before the catylitic converter. The code stated the the O2 sensor was slow to respond.

Would a bad O2 sensor only affect the idle when the car is cold or would the O2 sensor cause issues when the car is either hot or cold? Would an O2 sensor cause hesitation from full stop idle to about 3000 RPM?

Please help me resolve my idle issues. Thank you in advance.

A question about headrests

Hey guys. This isn't actually about my car, but my wife's - hopefully somebody here will have some ideas about how I might get want I want done.

My wife has a 2009 Honda Fit Sport that she likes a lot except for the headrests, which are hard and uncomfortably shaped for the way her head rests against them. When we purchased the car, she was told that if she decided she really couldn't stand them, headrests from the 2005 Honda Accord were compatible with the 2009 Fit Sport.

Fast forward to last year, when she asked if I would get her some different headrests for Christmas. I ran to every Honda dealership in town and talked to their parts departments, and basically nobody had any information for me at all. None of them could confirm (or deny) that any other type of headrest is compatible with the 2009 Fit Sport, and I didn't want to put parts on order (the Accord headrests were ~$200) on the chance that they'd work. They all told me they would make inquiries and call me back; nobody ever did.

I don't expect anybody else to have come up against this specific problem (though obviously that'd be serendipitous) but if anyone has an idea of how I might track down some reliable info on what might work before dropping hundreds of dollars on a speculative solution, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

2002 honda accord lx sedan noise???

Yo, this is my first time posting a thread here so imma try not to ramble.. here it goes.. My wife has a 2002 Honda Accord LX Sedan it has 115,000 miles she bought it in "02" from a Honda dealer that they used it as a loaner so it came with 30,000 miles already on it. Our problem is that when we drive it we hear a humming/whinning sound after 20mph. Apon checking online ive changed all that people have suggested, changed wheel bearings, front suspension, new breaks, ive changed all fluids... And after all that i still hear that damn noise could some one please point me into the right direction of what it is. Thank you.

i have a 1990 civic lx sedan with the 1.5 engine. I't won't start at all, all it does and crank and that's it, jump starting doesn't work either. It has a new battery, new starter, and new altenator belt, and the fuel pump is good, it has gas, plugs and wires are also good. I checked the fuses, and the fuse that goes to the starter is good, but the fuse isn't getting any juice. so does anyone else have this problem?

Car door problems

Hey guys. This is my first time posting and my first owned car lol. Anyway, I have a 1991 Honda civic hatchback and I am having some problems right now. My passanger door is messed up. When the car is on and when the door is closed, it still says it's open. At first, I didn't see it a big of a problem, But I notice everytime I get in the car, my battery is dead. So I assuming this door problem is draining my battery and killing it. I already had two people look at it (just some friends with honda's too) and they both say it's a wiring problem.

So what I'm asking is, does anyone know how to disable the light that says the doors is still open and if I do that, is the car still going believe it need the doors closed or does anyone know anyway I can fix the wiring problem? Like where in the car I need to look for the wires and fix the problem myself. Kudo's for whoever helps me lol. Thanks people.

lost power while driving

Its started like three days ago I was driving along and then all my lights dimmed and the battery light came on I was like 2 min from house so went home and looked at the next day. Jigled the battery cables and it seemed to fix it.then today I started it and everything was dim so I jiggled the cables and it would get a surge of power and rev up and lose it imediatly so me and a buddy stripped the cables and sanded the terminals and connectors and started it and everything was still dim so I started to leave by the time I got to the end of the driveway the radio was dead got on the road and the heater blower died soon after the speedo died and the airbag light came on, then while sitting at a light the headlights dimmed and it started sputtering so I turned around and on the way back it started to misfire and backfire not to mention the steering was a bit heavy so I got it back to my buddy's were it died. I replaced both the battery and alternator 6 months ago so either it eats alternators or its something else. Please help this is my only car it also has 200,000 miles on it. Thanks

Recently, my car has started acting a bit strange. The RPM's go up and down at idle, but everything else seems alright. I took off the idle controller, cleaned it out, reinstalled it, and nothing changed. Perhaps its bad ? I've heard this is a problem on honda's, my toyota I had awhile back did the same thing, but eventually stopped.

throttle cable

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I came here to ask for help!

This morning my throttle cable broke, and I can't find a replacement anywhere in my area or online. I can find a throttle cable for a 94-97 accord and other years.

I was wondering if anyone knows if these are the same? If I could use one of these from another year to fit mine?

I would totally appreciate any answers you could give me. Thanks so much!
