2006 Accord iPod Options...

Recommended Posts

Greetings -

I just picked up a 2006 Accord EX-V6 and I'm interested in options to get my iPod running through the factory radio.

I don't have a cassette deck. I have an FM transmitter, but it sucks...

My Accord doesn't have Navi and does have the in-dash 6-disc changer and XM (though I won't be signing up).

Can anybody help? The '06 seems to be new enough that none of the stores I've been to (Best Buy, Circuit City, Car Toys) have any options that work with it yet.

Thanks in advance!

The Honda Music Link for iPod is an option. I've been researching this as I just picked up a 2006 Honda Accord EX-L with Navi. I found these to PDFs which were helpful in

1. Seeing how it is installed: http://www.anythinghondaonline.com/Product...df/accord24.pdf

2. Seeing how it works: http://www.anythinghondaonline.com/Product...0-%20Accord.pdf

From here:

http://www.anythinghondaonline.com/index.a...ROD&ProdID=1125

Personally, I am less than impressed with it. Especially considering the Navi would make an awesome interface for browsing artists/albums/playlists etc. They have the opportunity to make something killer like the pioneer or other systems that let you browse. The whole adding playlists for the speech feedback is a bad idea. i have a ton of artists and I'm pretty sure the system would create about 100,000 playlists, not cool...

So, my next question is this: Does anyone know if my navi system will support an AUX connection that I could feed my iPod into? I think I'd rather use the iPod interface than fight my way through the Honda Music Link system. OR, I'd love to hear if someone knows a better solution.

Woo hoo! First post!

How was the sound quality of the music link? Right now i'm using the new itrip auto and getting distortion from some songs. Sounds like static at the louder parts of songs. I tried the same itrip in my girl's 01' Malibu and the static was not there and it sounded decent. Anyone have an idea on what may be causing the distortion in the 06 Accord??? thanks

Sorry, didn't mean to mislead you. I've never actually used the Honda Music link, i just read the manuals and a few reviews of it. I just found this site today if you are interested:

I did, however, find something I think will work for me I hope. It is called the Neo iOn. http://www.mp3yourcar.com

I should have it Tuesday and will install it Wednesday night. I'll let you know how it goes.

The device is supposed to provide steering wheel controls AND let you use the iPod's controls to browse (huge advantage over Honda Music Link). They think I'll need to give up my XM radio, which sucks, but I'd rather have my iPod. I'll let you know how it goes!

Hi Everyone-

The Neo iOn I ordered from mp3yourcar.com is awesome. It took me a couple hours to install into my 2006 Accord EX-L with Navi (XM & 6 disc in-dash cd changer) mainly because I was being overly cautious getting to the stereo, but the product installation itself was very easy.

The hardest steps were taking out the big storage bin under the cd changer (totally awkward) and deciding where to route the iPod & AUX cables (the Neo iOn has an AUX port in addition to the iPod port). I found this Honda document (installation for the Honda Music Link) very helpful:

http://www.anythinghondaonline.com/Product...df/accord24.pdf

As well as these sites:

http://www.distantcreations.com/accordipod/

http://home.comcast.net/~x3ms1/index.html

The best part about my install? EVERYTHING works!

Navi

AM

FM

XM

6 Disc In-Dash CD Changer

iPod

Additional AUX input (on Neo iOn) for DVD, other MP3 players, laptop, etc.

I have no sound bleeding/engine hum or low volume problems for XM. I am totally satisfied. I'm guessing Honda made a change to the 2006 models that fixes the aforementioned problems (probably because they were releasing the Honda Music Link).

I can control track & volume via steering wheel controls & dash controls. My iPod remains unlocked so I can browse playlists/artists/albums/songs/podcasts etc. I love it! The only thing better than this I can imagine would be for Honda to make an interface that replicated the iPod through the Navi screen (I can dream can't I?).

Aside from removing the standard stuff (trim around gear shift, "Not-An-Ashtray," and storage bin), all i had to do was add a splitter. The plugs I needed to disconnect were located directly to the left of the cd changer (so I didn't have to remove anything besides the parts mentioned above). Here is the splitter I used (although I bought it from mp3yourcar.com). I believe you can get this at any Honda Parts dealer (Part number 08A31-0F1-000):

http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=787

after adding the splitter, i plugged the Neo iOn into the other open end of the splitter and that was it. I tested it and it sounded great. I ran the dock connector through my "not an ashtray" and the AUX cord under the panel on the drivers side (so it hides under the seat). I put everything back together am loving it.

All that being said, i feel it necessary to point this out:

The Neo iOn I ordered "appears" to be the exact same as this product:

http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=879

http://ipodcarparts.com/honda-ipod-interfa...nput-p-194.html

They also have an older version that may work better with other cars:

http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=852

Mine had a Neo iOn sticker over the top covering up the fact it was a USA*SPEC PA11-HON2. I found this distressing at first (obviously I felt that I overpaid by $80), so I contacted the people at mp3yourcar.com

Before I continue, I have to say that the customer service at mp3yourcar.com is awesome. When I first thought about buying the product, the sales rep got back to me really fast and answered all my questions. When this issue came up, it took a few days for them to get back to me, BUT they offered to refund the difference in cost. I find that very professional and am totally satisfied with mp3yourcar.com

So, I was told by the mp3yourcar.com representative that they contacted the manufacturer (Neo) and that despite the fact it looked the same, that the "boards & chips" inside were different. I cannot validate this, but I thought you would want to know.

Overall, I love my setup and highly recommend mp3yourcar.com

I hope this helps everyone else!

Cool, glad everything is working for you. One question...I don't have the navi option or the XM option on my 06 Accord SE. Do I need the Y-adapter? Is there an empty plug on the back of the changer/radio unit that would be used if I had those options? Or would i need to split the factory harness anyway to use this kit? Thanks for the great information!

I read on the Mp3YourCar site that you can't use XM with the Neo iOn. It sounds like you were able to make it work. Did you have to do anything special?

I have a 2006. I didn't do anything special other than purchasing the Honda harness splitter i linked above. I think they may have made a change in the 2006 models because they knew the Honda Music Link was coming out.

Is it annoying that it doesn't display the artist and song title information on the text display of the head unit? Or does it? I've read that the Denisen Ice>Link Plus is good. I'm really interested in getting some kind of ipod integration going on for my V6 Accord EX-L w/o Navi. Any suggestions?

It doesn't display any artist/track/album info on the head unit. I don't find it all that annoying. It would be awesome if it did though.

If you want, there are some cool clips to mount your ipod in plain view to see that info though: http://www.proclipusa.com/c

The Denison Ice LInk Plus locks your iPod so you can only access playlists. The Neo lets you use the ipod to browse to whatever you want (artist/playlist/album/etc).

imho, this is the best solution for my honda (without modifying the stock stereo or interior).

First time poster....

Well, I bought the USASpec PA11-HON2 from discountcarstereo.com, for a good price of $120 US.

It works exactly as stated above with the Neo Ion, except I'm not sure if the Neo iOn has two different modes (DIRECT mode and PLAYLIST mode). All the details are on the discountcarstereo.com website.

I am extremely happy with this product, and wholeheartedly recommend it as the best iPod solution for the 2003-2006 Honda Accord. I use it with my black 60GB iPod Video, and it works fine. Combined with my black ipod holder (also from discountcarstereo.com) and my black ipod case, it looks very slick. I placed the holder on the left-center air vent, the perfect location in my opinion. Whenever I switch tracks with my steering wheel, the iPod lights up showing me the track.

With the additional AUX input to the device, it makes the device pretty sweet. And sound quality is as good as it gets in my opinion.

I placed the PA11-HON2 in my centre armrest compartment, in case I want to switch modes. It fits fine in there.

I think this device is pretty new too, it seems like it came out in late-January.

I have the Icelink in my '04 Accrod with navi. I would not recommend it, I'm quite disappointed. It malfunctions frequently. I've had it replaced under warranty and the new one has the same issues. Sometimes it doesn't work when you start up the car or while it's playing it skips to track #99 and then stops playing. The fact it locks up the ipod is a pain. It's very difficult to navigate the Icelink software menus on the ipod with the radio controls. It's only easy to get to your 1st 5 playlists. You can't browse albums or artists. When I bought it they claimed it would be fully functional on the navi display and that you'd see song info on the Navi screen, but to-date they still haven't added that functionality.

It also pulls a 58 milliamp draw on your battery when the car is off. I know that's a very small draw but my Honda dealer claims that's what's caused my batter to die when I didn't drive the car for 2 1/2 weeks.

I wouldn't buy one again.

Well... my PA11-HON2 finally arrived. I purchased from Discountcarstereo.com.

I'm having a problem with it though... I got it installed ok, but for some reason sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I can't reproduce it the issue consistently.

Sometimes I can get it to come on and stay on, other times I can't get it to work at all. All I get on the radio is EJECT.

I plan on trying to call them tomorrow, but their tech support hours aren't exactly work friendly.

Did anyone else experience any issues like this?

I didn't have any problems like this. I noticed my unit does say "EJECT" right before it begins playing the iPod. You may have a faulty unit. Make sure you select DISC 5 on the changer for the iPod and not disc 6 (which is for the auxillary input on the unit). also, make sure the dipswitches are set correctly.

Greetings, First post on this site - Outstanding Thread!

I have been reading this thread with great interest as I have been looking for an iPod interface for my '04 TSX Navi.

Glad I read this as I was seriously considering the iceLink system. Now, I think the USASpec PA11-HON2 is the way to go.

At this point I don't have XM and not sure I will. But I have decided to eventually get a Bluetooth phone. After doing research on Discount Car Stereo's site, I think I might consider Peripherals MSS (Motorola Speaker Switcher) for IHF1000 Bluetooth Phone Kit?

Has anyone done this yet?

If so, does anyone know if I will need the PIE HON03-F/MM (08A31-0F1-000) 2003-Up Honda Navigation harness?

BTW, has anyone seen this device yet - May possibly address the issue of an on screen display?

Valor iLink

"The iPod is controlled through an IR remote control, allowing the user to store the iPod in the glove compartment or center console and view all functions via an on screen display for hassle free use."

But to use it with the Navi, you need to buy a dual video input and now this starts to get expensive?

Did you ever get it working? Does it work nicely with XM and the navi system? I splurged and picked one of the units up (it's really too bad that the Honda one sucks so badly :( ) and will post my results later this week when I get it installed.

Great Thread. Glad I found it, I had ordered the Blitzsafe HON/M-Link1 V.2 from LogJam. Luckily for me they were out of stock and I was able to cancel the order and found this thread while looking around for what else to order. I hadn't heard of the PA11-HON2 before today.

Discount Car Stereo is out stock on it.

I was able to find it in stock for the same $119.99 price at Crutchfield with free shipping on all car products through April 1. I just ordered it early this morning and within three hours I got an email with a tracking number. Seems to be a great place, although I don't have any previous experience with them.

URL below. I can't wait to get this thing and install it.

Thanks for all the great info everyone
